Michael S. Leonard concentrates his practice in domestic and foreign patent prosecution, patent prosecution appeals, reissues, reexaminations, patent infringement, new product patent clearance and licensing. Mr. Leonard is a registered attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is experienced in technologies involving mechanical, electrical-mechanical and chemical products. He has counseled prominent corporations in industries involving healthcare/medical devices, semiconductors, turbine engines, home appliances, laser marking, fiber optics, 3-D modeling, construction equipment, surface and slide fasteners, credit card systems and composite materials.
Before joining Everest IP Law Group, Mr. Leonard was a shareholder at Bell Boyd and Lloyd, LLC and Hill & Simpson, PC. He also worked in the legal department at Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Prior to practicing law, he held technical positions with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, American Metal Ware Company and Modine Manufacturing Company.
Mr. Leonard received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Bradley University, an M.B.A. with honors from Keller Graduate School of Management and his J. D. from The John Marshall Law School.
Tin-Chuen Yeung, Ph.D. Managing Director
Dr. Yeung concentrates his practice in patent prosecution in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, medical devices and wireless communications technology, as well as providing patent mapping services and IP strategy consultation. He has been admitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1995.
In his previous position as Head of Strategic Development of Life Sciences with the Chicago law firm of Bell, Boyd, and Lloyd, LLC, he was with the intellectual property group responsible for patent prosecution and client development in life sciences. He was the Vice Chair of the Biotechnology Committee, Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago. Before joining Bell Boyd & Lloyd, Dr. Yeung was with the Chicago intellectual property law firm Wallenstein & Wagner, Ltd.
Prior to that, Dr. Yeung served as President of Everest International, Inc., a consultant to Fortune 500 medical technology companies and start-up biotechnology companies. He has also served as Director of Strategy and Business Development for the Biosciences Division at Baxter International Inc., where he managed the strategy for world-wide development, marketing and manufacturing of recombinant protein products. He also served as Director of Corporate Development for Baxter. In this position he was responsible for management of Baxter’s acquisitions, technology development, licensing and strategic alliances. Dr. Yeung was formerly a research fellow at Harvard Medical School, Department of Pharmacology, studying the action and toxicity of anti-cancer drugs.
Dr. Yeung is currently a member of the Keiretsu Forum (an angel investing group investing in early stage companies), iBIO and the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). He also serves on the advisory boards of several companies.
Dr. Yeung holds a BS degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in pharmacology from the State University of New York, as well as a Master of Management (with Distinction) from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, with concentrations in Finance, Marketing, and Management of Information Systems.
Dr. Yeung speaks and writes fluent Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese).
